SumSchool Day 1

Off with a bang……….yeah right.

Life of Fred – as serious as it needs to be.  Yeah, yeah, yeah, but who is Fred?  Glad you asked.  Fred is a 5 1/2 year old math professor at KITTENS University in Kansas, who rides a bicycle to his office and has a big nose.  You can’t not like Fred.   SS1 had half the book read and said, “I know all this”.   After discussing the finer points of “knowing” and “this looks familiar”…we will continue as planned.

I have decided that no matter how delightful the text and regardless of whether I adore the subject, I do not like the first section of any textbook.  I just don’t like that whole ‘get acquainted/what am I doing’ feeling.  Please don’t analyze me.

Art – I have been drawing all afternoon from Hooked On Drawing.  Yes, the one that is written for children….so what.  I drew…….drum roll, please………..a bowl of fruit!!  My hand hurts.  SS2 was not overly thrilled, but says it was good enough.  I hope the LifePacs come today.

Reading Detective – Just pretesting today.  Let’s just say, I really, really, really, hope this helps.

A Reason For Spelling – missed one word on the pretest.  I hope I didn’t start at a lower than needed level.  I want him to feel successful, not patronized!!  Will see how the next couple lessons go.

Critical Thinking – no comments, but I noticed he kept his nose in it for quite awhile.

There is one big difference between our last year of homeschooling and this  year’s sumschooling.  THEY EAT ALL THE TIME!  I think I will fill the freezer with frozen pizzas.

I’m interested in hearing more about Reading Detective.

Sounds to me like you are off to a good start. 🙂
